Monte Argentario: Porto Ercole

With quaint fishing villages and islands surrounded by serene waters, this is a completely different side of Tuscany: Monte Argentario.

When you think of Tuscany, the Renaissance, rolling hills, and scenes from Under the Tuscan Sun often come to mind. But what if I told you there’s also a Tuscan archipelago, with quaint fishing villages and islands surrounded by serene waters? This is a completely different side of Tuscany: Monte Argentario.

Monte Argentario is a promontory that stretches into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Connected to the lagoon town of Orbetello by two strips of land known as Tomboli, this area boasts a natural reserve. The two main towns of Argentario are Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano. A short boat ride away lie the islands of Giannutri and Giglio, with their small coves and crystal-clear turquoise waters, offering truly breathtaking views.

After flying into Rome, we escaped the heat of the city and made our way straight to the coast for

four relaxing nights by the sea.

La Roqqa Hotel & Beach Club

a luxury property recently opened in Porto Ercole, captivated me with its stunning views of the port and surrounding areas. Mornings spent on the rooftop, enjoying breakfast, and evening aperitifs were simply incredible.

The atmosphere felt quaint and friendly, and dare I say, it wasn’t swarmed by tourists—yet!

I love being in a country and being surrounded by the native language, especially when its your own.

It was my birthday during our stay, and the property was so wonderful in helping Sergio plan for flowers and champagne, and they even surprised me with a beautiful little cake!
